Alpaca Paper Trading is the free sandbox environment that mirrors Alpaca's live brokerage platform in every respect except real money. Launched alongside the main Alpaca API, it was designed to give developers, students, and new algorithmic traders a safe environment to iterate on strategy code without financial consequences.
